Anha jekar sun laye rasta raste te ja sakda nahin;
Rehbar jichchar hath na pakrhe manzil te aa sakda nahin.
Dora hove jekar koi naam na tera sun sakke;
Manmukh teri naam pyali pee sakke na pun sakke.
Gunga jekar hove koi ki vadiyaee gayega;
Koshish vi lakh var kare je apna raula payega.
Pingle de vich himmat nahin jyon parvat te charh jane di;
Avtar kahe tyon bemukh taee saar ki mahima gane di.

A blind person cannot proceed on the path just by hearing about it;
He cannot approach the destination unless the guide holds his hand.
If someone is deaf, he cannot listen to Thy Name;
A self-willed person can neither sip nor serve the cup of Divine Name.
If a person is dumb, he cannot sing the glory of God;
Even if he tries a million times, he will only be shouting in vain.
Just as a crippled person cannot climb a mountain;
Avtar says, likewise how can a self-willed person know the mode of singing the praise of God!

Meaning
Just like if a blind man cannot proceed on a path by merely hearing about it. Unless a guide holds his hand, he cannot reach the destination. A deaf person (metaphorical usage) would never be able to listen to Thy name. A self willed person would never be able to understand and live on Thy name. A dumb person (metaphorical usage) would never be able to sing Thy glory, even if he tries a million times. He would only be screaming in vain. Just like a crippled person would not gather courage to climb on a mountain, says Avtar, similarly a self willed person would not know the way to sing glory of God.
